We absolutely love this camera! Because it features specially IR corrected lens optics and automatic ability to mechanically remove internal IR cut filter, there is no focus shift present between the color picture in high/ normal lighting and the picture provided when camera is using infrared illuminators. The 550 horizontal TV line camera creates an absolutely RAZOR sharp picture capable of performing in ZERO light conditions. With a newly revised 1/3" Sony® high density SuperHAD® DSP (digital signal processing) CCD imager chipset- this is one special camera.
Versatile internal lens allows very wide angle to a fairly tight (most integrate varifocal lenses are only 4-8mm range).

This truly illuminates up to 80+ feet in pitch dark conditions. Many lookalike models can barely illuminate past 30-40' even though they advertise as being higher powered. With a built-in photocell and smart light-sensing circuitry, the design saves use of IR illuminators until they are actually necessary. Using the high output LED emitters only when necessary adds a lot more time to their overall effective life.

Our 'ultimate' IR-5VFHR high resolution indoor/ outdoor infrared camera is already weatherproof and includes mount. They really 'did it all' with this one. It features a specially IR-corrected lens and mechanical IR filter removal function- hard to find but essential to avoid the 'focus shift' aberration issue experienced with most 'day night' cameras when used with IR. Only slightly larger than IR-5HAD, it is capable of 70' + of illumination distance in pitch dark. Plus, the varifocal aspect really allows your to custom tailor your desired field of view (if within range).

If you require more zoom/ illumination power, consider either our specialized IR-5HP35 (180' illumination with fixed focus 35mm zoom lens) or our TV-BCSHR with new special IR corrected 5-50mm lens + separate IR illumination.
Cautions:
This camera features an internal manually adjustable varifocal lens. Extra care must be taken when making zoom/ focus adjustment, primarily not to damage any of the o-ring seals which make the camera weatherproof to begin with.
When internal lens is set to a wide angle coverage, it may capture more video in the frame than is actually being illuminated since IR emitters project their light at a set angle of emission.
Infrared cameras cannot be placed behind glass, etc. (i.e. inside a window). The camera "sees" the infrared light as if it were bright white light. When you place an infrared camera behind glass, the activated illuminators will create a visual halo around the picture as the illuminators are reflected back at the camera. Only certain types of filters will prevent this- such as the material built into the front face of the IR-5VFHR, IR-5EX, IR-5HAD and IR-2HAD and IR-5HP35 cameras.
This camera is not submersible.
These bullet cameras are great and are considered rugged, but care must be used when handling the attached video /power cable. Most any problems ever seen with our bullet cameras are caused by too much pulling stress being applied, resulting in connection damage inside the camera.
